Northampton man killed in 248 crash

Lehigh Township police in Northampton County had to deal with another fatal crash on Sunday.

Police said they were called to the scene of a crash at 10:43 a.m. in the 4200 block of Lehigh Drive (Route 248), for a two-vehicle crash involving entrapment and injuries.

Police said a silver Subaru Forester had been traveling westbound and collided head-on with a dark green Kia Sedona, which was traveling eastbound. The driver and sole occupant of the Subaru died upon impact. The driver was identified as David Ahn Jr., 38, of Howertown Road, Northampton.

The Kia Sedona was driven by Howard Bachman, 53, of Deer Path Road, Lehigh Township. Two additional passengers with Bachman were identified as Ida Bachman, 55, and Cynthia Stutzman, no age or address listed. Injuries to the occupants of the Kia ranged from minor to severe.

Township police were assisted by Lehigh Township Fire Department and Fire Police, Northampton Regional EMS, St. Luke’s EMS, Lehighton EMS and East Allen Township EMS. The coroner’s office of Northampton County was called to respond to assist with the investigation.

On Friday morning township police investigated another fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of routes 248 and 873 involving a tractor-trailer and a van. Richard Bowman, 76, of Pen Argyl, was killed in that crash. He was operating a Dodge Grand Caravan. The operator of the Kenworth truck was identified Ryan Roberts, 32, of Duryea, Luzerne County. He was not injured.

The investigation into both crashes is continuing.
