Another bomb threat called into Monroe courthouse Friday

Monroe County officials are continuing to look for whoever is responsible for a slew of bomb threats at the Monroe County courthouse, with the most recent threat taking place on Friday morning.

According to a release from the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney, at 11:25 a.m. on Nov. 2, a call was placed to 911 from Coolbaugh Township, near the dam at Tobyhanna State Park.

The caller claimed five bombs had been placed in the Monroe County courthouse, but after a thorough search of the building, no such weapons were found.

Friday’s threat is the seventh bomb threat since May.

On Oct. 1, a female caller reported four bombs in the courthouse, and the next day, another female caller alleged that three bombs were in the building’s basement. Both threats prompted evacuations.

Following the threats that took place early October, Monroe County Sheriff Todd Martin said that even with the help of three K-9’s in sweeping the courthouse, no bombs were uncovered.

But he ensured the county will continue its pursuit for whoever is responsible for the threats.

“We may not get you today or tomorrow, but we will,” Martin said. “When we find out who is responsible, they will be arrested and if found guilty, they can be made to pay restitution for all of this.”

Recorded copies of all seven calls, are available on the Monroe County District Attorney’s website. Anyone with information should contact Detective Brian Webbe at 570-517-3114, or by email at bwebbe@monroecountypa.gov.
