Whitehall woman killed in turnpike crash

A Whitehall woman was killed early Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension in Kidder Township.

State police said Irene Vomero, 82, was northbound near mile-marker A93.5 at 2:21 a.m., when her 2016 Mazda 3 struck the rear bumper of a 2013 Toyota Rav 4, which was disabled in the right lane from a previous crash.

Vomero’s vehicle spun clockwise and was struck in the right front fender by a 2014 Mack Truck driven by Tony Catlin, 50, of Newfield, New York.

Vomero was pronounced dead, while Catlin had an injury of an unknown severity.

Police did not identify the driver of the Toyota.
