Man cited, two injured in Polk Township crash

A York man was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a three-vehicle collision that happened at 6:48 a.m. Oct. 11 at the intersection of Interchange Road and Burger Hollow Road in Polk Township.

State police at Lehighton said Christopher J. Klement, 24, was cited after the mishap.

Police said he was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse east on Interchange Road when he failed to slow down and the vehicle struck the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Patrick P. Tierney, 57, of Palmerton, which was pushed into the rear of a 2015 Jeep Renegade that was driven by Elke M. Reeves, 57, of Tamaqua. Police said the latter two vehicles were stopped at the intersection for a red light.

Police said Tierney sustained a minor head injury and was transported to the St. Luke’s Monroe campus, in the West End Ambulance. Klement also sustained a minor head injury but refused an EMS transport.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.
