Judge orders Shawn Christy to be detained pending a trial

SCRANTON — A federal magistrate judge ordered a McAdoo man accused of threatening President Donald Trump to be detained pending a trial.

Shawn Christy, 27, is a flight risk and danger to the community, U.S. Magistrate Joseph Saporito Jr. said this morning in U.S. District Court in Scranton. Investigators say Christy threatened the president on social media.

He faces charges for threats against the president, interstate communication for threats against law enforcement and interstate communication for threats to injure another person in the four-count indictment. He led law enforcement on a roughly three-month manhunt which began at his home in McAdoo on June 20, and crossed six state lines. It finally ended in a ravine near a camp in Mifflin Township, northern Ohio, on Sept. 21.

Christy interrupted the proceedings this morning at one point exclaiming, “excuse me” during U.S. Assistant Attorney Michelle Olshefski’s details of his time on the run.
