Carbon shelter lowers adoption fee for veterans in November

Carbon County is again hoping to pair a few veterans with some of its shelter dogs in November.

To entice more servicemen and women to visit the pups that are up for adoption, the county has slashed the adoption fee in half for all veterans looking to adopt.

The adoption fee for anyone who served in the military will be $50 for the month of November instead of the normal $100.

It’s an opportunity for the county to do something for the men and women who served,” Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard said. “Reducing that fee from $100 to $50 shows our thanks to those who served our country.”

There are currently 18 dogs up for adoption, Gerhard said, but that number can fluctuate daily.

Veterans interested in visiting the pups that are up for adoption can do so by coming in to the shelter at 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, during public business hours, Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For more information or questions, people can also call the shelter at 570-325-4828.
