New Ringgold man arrested for theft of excavator

State police at Frackville reported an arrest has been made in the theft of a Bobcat mini excavator, first reported on Sept. 26.

Troopers said around 6 a.m. Oct. 1 patrol units from Frackville and Schuylkill Haven responded to the area of Ridge Road in East Brunswick Township in reference to the investigation of the theft. The Bobcat mini excavator that was previously reported stolen by Kevin E. Raker Construction Company of Sunbury, was observed in the area. Troopers then observed the Bobcat being driven north on Ridge Road. A member of the Schuylkill Haven barracks was behind the vehicle while a Frackville patrol unit approached from the front. Troopers said the mini excavator made contact with the front end of the Frackville unit.

The driver of the Bobcat was taken into custody and identified as Barron Belsak, 45, of New Ringgold. He has been charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, and counts of criminal mischief, receiving stolen property, possessing instruments of crime, institutional vandalism and fleeing or attempting to elude police.

He was arraigned before on-call District Judge James K. Reiley, of Pottsville, and placed in the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $75,000 straight cash bail.
