Concert to honor late library director

The Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, will present the Gerald Geiger Memorial Concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in the upstairs gallery at the library.

Geiger served on the library board for 20 years in the ’70s and ’80s and was hired as the library director in July 1987.

He served in that position until March 2006.

He passed away in February of this year.

Geiger was always a patron of the arts and a lover of literature.

During his time as director, the library added a huge addition to the back of the building which now houses the children’s room and the upstairs gallery.

Also, during the early 2000s, he oversaw a large renovation of the library with the addition of the mezzanine, the elevator and the remodeling of the basement to make it a usable space.

This concert in his honor will feature a string quartet of professional musicians including Alyson Whelan, violin 1; Aimee Morrill-Briant, violin 2; Michael Montero, viola; and Aimee Nishimura, cello. Local pianist Sherry Freund will accompany some of the selections.

This concert is free and open to the public.
