A Port Clinton man died when he was run over by a car at 9:48 p.m. Sunday on Route 61 in his hometown.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said Michael William Andrews, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the incident happened in the right travel lane of Route 61, just south of Clinton Street. Andrews was laying in the lane of travel, having apparently fallen onto the roadway as he got out of his vehicle.

He was run over by a 2010 Subaru Legacy driven by Edward S. Shadle, 27, of Ambler.

Police said a vehicle traveling directly in front of the Subaru abruptly swerved to the left to avoid Andrews. Shadle was unable to avoid the victim and immediately pulled to the shoulder area and remained on scene.

Police said no charges will be filed against Shadle.
