Alcohol, drugs contribute to Tamaqua crash

A Tamaqua woman has been charged in connection with a crash in Tamaqua on Sept. 26.

Amanda Jane Fisher, 27, of Orwigsburg Street, was driving in the area of her home at 5:54 p.m. when she hit a parked car. Witnesses told officers she had driven around the block several times before the crash.

Fisher denied any use of alcohol or illegal drugs but did say she took “something” about five hours earlier for a medical condition. She couldn’t remember what she took.

She agreed to a field sobriety test, which she failed, then agreed to have a blood test at St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale.

The results of that test were positive for marijuana and indicated a .29 percent blood alcohol level, more than three times the legal limit of .08.

She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of the 3-year-old boy she had in the car at the time of the crash.
