Monroe man charged with robbery, carjacking

A Monroe County man is facing charges of robbery and carjacking following an incident that occurred at 8:21 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Giant Market in Hamilton Township.

State police at Stroudsburg responded to the market along with police from Stroud Regional and Pocono Township, to a report of an attempted armed robbery.

On scene the victim, a 29-year-old Tobyhanna man told officers that as he entered the parking lot he was approached by a white man who asked for assistance and then attempted to gain entry into his vehicle. The victim and the suspect engaged in a struggle within the victim’s vehicle. The victim was assaulted and threatened with an air soft pistol. The victim was able to fight off his attacker, who ran off. The victim then entered the market and requested assistance.

Troopers said a check of the area was conducted by troopers and local police and a white man, matching the description of the suspect provided by the victim, was located and detained.

The suspect, identified as Travis Koehler, 34, of Gilbert, was positively identified by the victim as his assailant. Koehler was charged with robbery, carjacking and related counts. He was lodged in the county prison in Snydersville pending arraignment.
