Local Sports Roundup: Results from Oct. 6

Palmerton picked up field hockey and girls soccer victories on Saturday, while Tamqua posted wins in both boys and girls soccer.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Palmerton blanked Catasauqua for a 5-0 Colonial League victory.

Ana Recker led the Blue Bombers with a goal and an assist, while Sayler Burke, Emily Becker and Emily Baumgardt all chipped in with single scores. Emily Butz also finished with an assist.

Bombers’ goalie Maddy Serto finished with five saves to record the shutout win.

Palmerton improves to 7-6-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the CL.

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern defeated Salisbury for a 4-1 Colonial League win.

Tess Ledeboer paced the Tigers with two goals, while Sydney Derr added a goal and an assist. Reagan Hernandez (goal), Allie Lister (assist) and Lauren Schellhamer (assist) also contributed to the victory.

Northwestern moves to 8-7-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the CL.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame ES-Palmerton

Carissa Fallon’s hat trick highlighted Palmerton’s 6-2 non-league victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

Madison Martinez added two goals for the Bombers, while Gianna Kintz chipped in with a single score. Laura Rehrig and Fallon recorded assists.

Bombers’ keeper Morgan Coles had 13 saves.

Tamaqua-Nativity

Three different players scored as Tamaqua rolled to a 3-1 Schuylkill League win over Nativity.

Katie Rudy, Emma Kuczynski and Kayla Sherry recorded goals for the Blue Raiders (8-4 overall). Sophia Boyle had an assist.

Camilla Koury posted the Golden Girls’ lone goal.

The Blue Raiders’ Baylee Reinhardt played well in goal, making 10 saves.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Rachel Frew’s two second-half goals sparked Pine Grove to a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

The Olympians’ Eve Morris opened the scoring with a first-half goal off an assist from Lydia Wallace.

JT keeper Kate Boss finished with 16 saves.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Pottsville cruised to a 7-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Lexi Maccarone led the Tide with two goals and an assist.

Tri-Valley-Weatherly

Tri-Valley recorded a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

BOYS SOCCER

Palmerton-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe blanked Palmerton for a 4-0 non-league win.

Andrea Manzella led the Olympians with two goals, while Alex Putt and Leandro Ramirez both added single scores.

Olympians’ keeper Kingsley Ehling made 11 saves to post the shutout victory. Bryce Yacone made 11 saves in the Palmerton goal.

Nativity-Tamaqua

Tamaqua knocked off Nativity for a 3-1 victory.

Brian Milot led the Blue Raiders with two goals and an assist, while Tyler Steigerwalt added a single score. Michael Shlanta finished with two assists.

Blue Raiders’ keeper Luke Verta ended up with seven saves.

Lehighton-Hazleton

Hazleton came out on top with a 2-1 non-league win over Lehighton.

Drew Lorenz scored the Indians’ lone goal, while Logan Lucas received the assist.

Gabe Fabian and Will Garcia accounted for the Cougars’ goals.

Indians’ keeper Zach Andrews recorded 14 saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Lehighton-Minersville

Lehighton scored a 25-12, 25-14, 25-12 win over Minersville.

Alyssa Frey (16 assists, four digs, three aces); Emily Miller (nine digs, eight kills, two aces); Lillian Brown (18 digs, two kills, two aces), and Sophia Salerno (six kills, three digs) all played well for the Indians.

Lehighton improves to 9-8 overall.

Hazleton-Weatherly

Weatherly picked up a 25-16, 27-25, 14-25, 25-18 non-league win over Hazleton.

The Wreckers snapped a three-match losing streak with the victory.

Northwestern-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain got the best of Northwestern for a 25-12, 25-7, 25-18 non-league victory.

Ashley Bennicoff had six digs and six assists for the Tigers (7-9). Jovina Fager (three digs, two aces and two assists); Sam McGinley (four digs, four kills), Shante Duminie (three blocks, two kills) and Megan Corke (four digs) also played well.
