Local Sports Roundup: Results from Oct. 2

Sara Hathaway scored four times to lead the Northwestern girls’ soccer team to an overtime win over Southern Lehigh on Monday.

The Tigers’ boys soccer team also picked up a win, as did the Northern Lehigh field hockey, Panther Valley and Marian volleyball squads.

GIRLS SOCCER

Northwestern-Southern Lehigh

Sara Hathaway’s four goals sparked Northwestern to a 4-3 Colonial League overtime victory over Southern Lehigh.

Lizzy Kanzler led the Spartans with two goals, while Kristen Cocozza followed with a goal and an assist.

Tigers’ keeper Lauren Terrell grabbed six saves.

Northwestern improved to 12-2 overall (8-2 in the CL), while Southern Lehigh slipped to 6-4-1 (6-2-1 in the CL).

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Sydney Riegel’s hat trick sparked Blue Mountain to an 8-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Kylie Kutz followed with two goals for the Blue Eagles.

Blue Raiders keeper Baylee Reinhardt grabbed eight saves, while her counterpart Lianne Derrick finished with two for the shutout.

Tamaqua drops to 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the league.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-Pen Argyl

Northwestern cruised to a 6-0 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Sam Seyfried led the Tigers with two goals, while Caleb Danner, Riley Shafer, Luke Bryan and Jason Blaine also scored, and Rayan Baker added an assist.

Tigers’ keeper Zach Rosamalia finished with six saves to earn the shutout.

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

Isaiah Everett’s second-half goal allowed Lehighton to earn a 1-1 Schuylkill League tie with North Schuylkill.

The Spartans’ goal came from Matt Schacte.

The Indians now hold a record of 3-9-2 (1-8-1 in the league).

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

A second-half goal by Mitchell Lesh gave Pine Grove a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Lesh’s goal was assisted by Dennis Kull.

The Blue Raiders (10-2; 7-2) were outshot by an 11-7 margin.

Weatherly-Williams Valley

A hat trick from Chett Pesta helped Williams Valley roll to an 8-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

The Vikings outshot the Wreckers (3-8; 2-7) by a 15-2 margin.

VOLLEYBALL

Panther Valley-

Jim Thorpe

Panther Valley earned a Schuylkill League win against Jim Thorpe 24-26, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15.

Sarah Zabroski had 28 assists for the Panthers, while Erika Dubosky added 15 kills and 14 digs. Olivia Dacey had 10 kills and a dozen digs.

Brandy Montemuro finished with 28 digs, 12 assists, and seven kills for the Olympians. Kelsey Carroll had 23 digs and 14 kills, while Abbey McGinley chipped in 24 digs.

Lourdes-Marian

Marian rolled to a 25-10, 25-8, 25-8 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.

Tatianna Zeleniak led the Fillies with 21 assists and nine aces, while Alivia Karchner added 10 kills.

Teammates Macie Mazaluski (six kills) and Kate Spillman (five aces, five digs) contributed in the victory.

FIELD HOCKEY

Catasauqua-

Northern Lehigh

Jada Mills’ five goals propelled Northern Lehigh to a 9-1 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

The Bulldogs’ Olivia Romig chipped in with one goal and three assists, while Kyra Horack, Gabbie Myster and Alexas Mankos also added goals.

Teammates Madison Posivak and Rebekah McGeehan both finished with two assists.

Nolehi jumped to 10-4 overall (9-3 CL), while Catty fell to 0-13 (0-11).
