On This Date: Sept. 24, 1966

September 24, 1966 — Duane Billig scores three touchdowns and Jim Thorpe’s defense records a shutout in a 41-0 victory over Pleasant Valley. The Olympian ‘D’ get on the scoreboard first when Dan Skrimcovsky, Rich Kelowitz and Ed Smith combine on a sack in the end zone for a safety. Touchdown runs of 17 yards by Paul Skrimcovsky, three yards by Mike Slivka, and four yards by Billig up Thorpe’s lead to 22-0 by halftime. Billig tallies twice more in the second half and Joe Lazorick returns a punt 35 yards for another score. The defense end up limiting PV to just 20 total yards of offense.
