Local Sports Roundup: Results from Sept. 21

Three hat tricks and a double-overtime win highlighted area action on Friday.

BOYS SOCCER

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Michael Schlanta’s goal in the second overtime lifted Tamaqua to a 2-1 Schuylkill League comeback win over Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders trailed 1-0 after the first half, but a Jacob Rudy goal on a penalty kick knotted the score in the second half.

The contest remained tied until Tyler Steigerwalt fed Schlanta for the game-winner.

Tamaqua, which held a 13-10 edge in shots, received eight saves from goalie Luke Verta. The Tide had a 12-9 advantage in corners.

Pleasant Vy.-Whitehall

Matt Erhardt’s overtime goal not only gave Pleasant Valley a 4-3 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Whitehall, but it also allowed him to complete a hat trick.

The Bears, who held a 16-12 advantage in shots, also received a goal from Mirza Sabovic. Zion Moore and Timmy Covart added assists.

Keeper Chris Price made seven saves for PV.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern

Jada Mills accounted for all three of Northern Lehigh’s goals as the Bulldogs gained a 3-1 Colonial League victory over rival Northwestern.

Madison Posivak assisted on two of the tallies, while Rachel Nonnemacher also added a helper.

The Tigers’ lone goal came off the stick of Sydney Derr.

Northern Lehigh finished with an 8-5 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corners.

Goalie Kendall Heiney made five saves for the Bulldogs.

Notre Dame ES-

Palmerton

Sayler Burke’s hat trick helped lead Palmerton to a 7-0 non-league victory over Notre Dame-ES.

Burke also added an assist in the lopsided win.

Molly Mihalko added two goals, while Emily Baumgardt contributed a goal and two assists.

The Blue Bombers, who held a 15-4 advantage in corners, also received a goal from Ana Recker.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pleasant Valley-

Whitehall

A second-half goal by Whitehall’s Elissar Khalil gave the Zephyrs a 1-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Kate Bonshak assisted on the game’s only tally.

Whitehall held a 12-4 advantage in shots.
