Tamaqua assault lands man in jail

A Reading man was taken to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville on Saturday after a domestic dispute in Tamaqua.

Tamaqua police were called to Route 309 at the north end of town at 7:10 a.m. for a possible domestic incident. Officers cleared a previous call and responded to the area where they were met by a state trooper, a parked private vehicle and a couple from the Reading area.

The trooper had already spoken to the couple and called the incident a “rolling domestic.”

The woman in the car said the couple began arguing on their way home from Niagara Falls. The driver, Garret Arms, 26, pulled over to the side of the road. When he exited the vehicle she locked the doors.

Arms picked up a rock and threw it through the passenger-side window, shattering the glass. The rock hit the woman’s left leg, which also ended up covered in glass shards. There were several cuts on her leg, which were bleeding moderately. She was treated at the scene by EMS personnel.

Arms agreed with the victim’s report.

He was arraigned before duty District Judge David Platchko, of Port Carbon, on charges of simple assault (three counts) and harassment.

Bail was set at $25,000 percentage. Arms was taken to the county prison when he was unable to post the required $2,500.
