September 18, 1953 — Tamaqua uses three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to gain a 27-12 comeback win over Mount Carmel. Playing before an estimated crowd of over 7,000, the Blue Raiders use scores from John Dalcin, Al Kovelesky and Charlie Zayleskie to rally from a 12-7 halftime deficit. Dalcin’s score, a 74-yard catch-and-run from Ed Adams, gives Tamaqua the lead midway through the third quarter. Kovelesky extends the margin when he recovers a bad snap on a punt attempt in the end zone. The winners, coached by Bob Hartwig Jr., receive insurance in the final frame on Zayleskie’s 5-yard TD run.
