Local Sports Roundup: Results from Sept. 15

Tamaqua and Jim Thorpe posted girls soccer victories on Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Palmerton

Rebekah Hromyak’s goal with 5:13 left in the second overtime lifted Tamaqua to a 3-2 non-league win over Palmerton.

Emily Titus contributed a goal and an assist for the Blue Raiders. Emma Kuczynski also scored a goal.

The Blue Bombers’ goals were scored by Lauren Rehrig and Carissa Fallon.

Tamaqua held a 24-21 edge in shots and a 3-2 advantage in corners.

Blue Raider goalie Zoe Seltzer finished with 13 saves.

No. Lehigh-Jim Thorpe

Lydia Wallace had two goals and an assist to highlight Jim Thorpe’s 3-0 non-league win over Northern Lehigh.

Kayla Renode added the other Olympians’ goal, while Brianna Monahan was credited with an assist.

Kate Bos ended up with five saves to earn the shutout in net for Jim Thorpe. Bulldogs’ keeper Erica Detwiler finished with 21 saves.

Nazareth-Pleasant Valley

Hayden Berner’s goal was all Nazareth needed to secure a 1-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Bears’ goalie Samantha Merklin recorded nine saves.

Pleasant Valley falls to 5-2 overall (4-2 in EPC). Nazareth improves to 4-3 (4-2 EPC).

BOYS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Pine Grove blanked Jim Thorpe for a 2-0 Schuylkill League win.

Dennis Kull and Mitchel Lesh scored the Cardinals’ goals.

Olympians’ keeper Kingsley Ehling made seven saves.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Pottsville defeated Lehighton, 3-1, in Schuylkill League action.

Egan Kauffman, Caleb Roos and Daniel Hair posted the Tide’s goals.

Luke Hoffner scored the Indians’ lone goal, while Drew Lorenz was credited with the assist.

Lehighton slips to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the SL. Pottsville improves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Pleasant Valley-Nazareth

Zion Moore had four goals and an assist to highlighted Pleasant Valley’s 6-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Nazareth.

Damarcus George and Matt Erhardt added the other Bear goals, while Mirza Sabovic was credited with four assists.

Pleasant Valley goalie Chris Price made eight saves to record the shutout win.

FIELD HOCKEY

So. Lehigh-No. Lehigh

Two goals from Hailey Evans sparked Northern Lehigh to a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Jada Mills scored the other Bulldogs’ goal. Madison Amorim had two assists and Madison Posivak had one.

Morgan Benner and Bryn Hughes posted the Spartans’ goals.

PM West-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe blanked Pocono Mountain West, 5-0, in a non-league match.

Lennne Van Essendelft, Christy McLean and Kaitlyn O’Neil swept singles’ play for the Olympians.

Jim Thorpe improves to 9-1 on the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Marian at

Parkland Tournament

Bishop Shanahan knocked off host Parkland 25-22, 25-23 to capture the Parkland Volleyball Invitational title.

Marian took part in the tournament and bowed out in the quarterfinals, falling to Liberty 25-21.

Alivia Karchner led the Fillies with 12 kills and five blocks in the tournament. Antonina Zeleniak (19 digs), Macie Mazaluski (17 digs) and Kate Spillman (11 digs) all played well defensively. Mazaluski also had nine kills. Tatianna Zeleniak finished with 34 assists on the day.

PM West-Lehighton

Lehighton posted a 25-16, 25-22, 27-29, 25-14 non-league victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Lillian Brown had 21 digs and five aces for the Indians. Also playing well for Lehighton were Sydney Vincent (10 digs, five kills); Emily Miller (14 kills); Samantha Banning (seven digs, six aces); Alyssa Frey (seven digs); and Gina Piccinoni (six aces).
