Tamaqua church to begin diaper depot outreach program

The Outreach Team at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Tamaqua continues to reach out to people in need. Its newest venture is a diaper depot, which will begin in October.

The concept is simple: Provide free diapers to parents of children up to the age of 4. The only requirements are proof of residency — the program is open to anyone living within the Tamaqua Area School District — and proof of identification for each child. There is no financial need requirement, but preregistration is also required.

The organizers’ goal is to help those who are going through a difficult period in their life.

Diapers will be distributed, by appointment only, on the third Saturday of each month, starting Oct. 20, between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. Parents or guardians must contact the church at 570-668-2180 or online at www.ziontamaqua.com/diaper-depot at least three days before the distribution date.

Diaper sizes will range from newborn to size 4T pullups. Requests for a specific brand of diaper cannot be accommodated, and all requests are subject to size availability. There is a limit of one 50-diaper pack per child per month. Each package of diapers will also come with a pack of diaper wipes, subject to availability.

In the event you register but are not able to pick up the diapers, 24 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

Anyone who fails to keep an appointment, without proper notice, will be required to wait an additional month before being eligible.

The Philadelphia Diaper Bank is partnering with Zion’s for the endeavor.
