Jim Thorpe to provide psychologist services to Weatherly

A letter of agreement between Jim Thorpe Area School District and Weatherly Area School District was approved at Monday night’s board meeting. The agreement states that the Jim Thorpe Area School District will provide school psychologist services to Weatherly, as needed, for initial evaluations and re-evaluations.

Initially, Weatherly and Panther Valley were looking to work together to obtain school psychological services to support the services currently in place. The position was posted, and candidates interviewed. The hiring process came to an abrupt halt when two candidates who were offered the open position withdrew their applications, leaving Weatherly short-handed at the start of the school year.

Superintendent Brian Gasper said that the Jim Thorpe school district has adjusted schedules to allow it to provide the support to Weatherly.

Jim Thorpe will be reimbursed at a rate of $400 per initial evaluation and $300 per re-evaluation. The district will also be reimbursed for mileage.

Other business

Wilmer Redline reported that the district will be posting the request for bids for bus service contracts starting next week.

Although there have been no busing issues reported for this year to date, contracts are due to be renewed.

Board member Gerald Strubinger, referring to an article in the Times News, said the Weatherly Area School District saved $400,000 in transportation costs by using a single bus company and suggested Jim Thorpe do the same to cut costs.
