Medical incident leads to crash

State police at Lehighton said a medical incident led to a one-vehicle crash on Sept. 6 about 9:22 a.m. along Interchange Road (Route 209) in Franklin Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Richard E. Gombert, 78, of Lehighton, was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler northbound when he experienced a suspected medical emergency and lost consciousness. His vehicle left the road on the south berm and struck a bush. The vehicle then became airborne and re-entered the road where Gombert was able to stop the vehicle along Maple Avenue.

Gombert was not injured but the Jeep was towed. A Lehighton EMS unit responded to the scene.
