A Centre County man was lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, following his arrest in Summit Hill over the weekend.

Summit Hill police reported Anthony Thorpe, 31, of Howard, was taken into custody and charged with simple assault, harassment and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, stemming from incidents Thursday and Friday in the borough.

The victim in the incidents reported she was assaulted by Thorpe during the evening of Sept. 6 while walking along North Oak Street.

She said she was spending the evening with him in Summit Hill and the two were walking from a local gas station when Thorpe became angry because she was following him too closely. She said she was walking close to Thorpe because she did not know the area well and it was dark, when Thorpe threw her to the ground and began pulling her hair, then spitting in her face.

Police said the victim said she suffered a sprained right wrist and abrasions below her right knee cap.

After the altercation, the victim told police, she and Thorpe returned to a friend’s residence in the borough to stay overnight. The following day at 8 a.m., she awakened to find her vehicle missing. A friend in the residence informed her that during the night, Thorpe had taken her vehicle and was accompanied by another woman.

The vehicle is a silver Saturn SL1 with the PA registration plate of HXV-3124.

The victim told police said she did not give Thorpe permission to operate her vehicle.

Thorpe was later located and admitted to the incidents, telling police he was “high” on methamphetamine.
