State police at the Fern Ridge barracks arrested a juvenile on charges of terroristic threats after a parent and a student contacted Pleasant Valley School District officials on Thursday morning to report a threat seen on social media.

According to district Superintendent David Piperato, “The high school administration was able to identify the student responsible for the threat and contacted our school district police force,” Piperato said. “The student was detained by our police until PSP could arrive to begin the investigation.”

In a one-page report, police said they were called to the school, located on Route 209, Chestnuthill Township, at 7 a.m. Thursday, to investigate “reports of terroristic threats against Pleasant Valley High School.”

Piperato, meanwhile, said police had additional concerns once they began questioning the student and at that time removed the student from the school.

“We will continue to cooperate with the PSP throughout the investigation and will ultimately hold the student accountable as per the law, PA School Code and our district policy,” he said.

Piperato said in an interview regarding school safety published over the summer, that student awareness and feeling safe in reporting what they see and hear is critical to making the schools safer.

“We are grateful to the parent and student who both came forward to provide us critical information,” Piperato concluded.
