Local Sports Roundup: Results from Sept. 4

Jim Thorpe posted wins in three different sports on Tuesday.

The Olympians were victorious in boys soccer, girls tennis, and volleyball.

BOYS SOCCER

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

A pair of second-half scores lifted Jim Thorpe to a 3-1 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over Pottsville.

Ryder Wallace’s second goal of the game broke a 1-1 tie. Wallace assisted on Preston Lawrence’s score that set the final tally.

Alex Putt and Thor Huth had assists for the Olympians, who scored three unanswered goals after Brendan Smith gave the Tide a 1-0 lead in the first half.

Kingsley Ehling made 12 saves in the victory.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove blanked Lehighton for a 4-0 Schuylkill League win.

Cam Raudabaugh paced the Cardinals with two goals and an assist, while Donald Legarht and Ayden Zerbe also found the back of the net.

Indians’ keeper Zach Andrews finished with seven saves.

Palisades-Northern Lehigh

Palisades rolled to a 7-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

The Pirates’ Grayson Delley ended up with three goals and an assist, while Michael Swoppe, Daniel Muth, Gavin Kelley and John Nolen also scored.

Grant Olewine recorded the Bulldogs’ lone goal in the second half.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Tamaqua earned a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over Blue Mountain.

Jacob Rudy’s second-half goal was the difference for the Raiders. Luke Verta had nine saves.

The Eagles outshot Tamaqua 10-8 in the contest.

Weatherly-Lourdes

Weatherly defeated Lourdes in league play, 4-2.

Mason Gerhart score twice to lead the Wreckers. Elijah Derr and Tyler McKendry also added goals for Weatherly.

Moravian Academy-Palmerton

Moravian Academy spoiled Palmerton’s Colonial League opener with an 8-0 win.

GIRLS TENNIS

Notre Dame ES-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe shut out Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg for a 7-0 victory.

Leanne Van Essendelft, Christy McLean and Kaitlyn O’Neil make it a clean sweep of singles’ play for the Olympians (7-0).

Sarah Hathaway’s hat trick helped propel Northwestern to a 4-2 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Jillian Fink followed with a goal for the Tigers, while Maggie Motolese was credited with two assists.

Tigers’ keeper Lauren Terrell grabbed seven saves in the victory.

Northwestern moves to 2-0 in the league, while Salisbury falls to 0-2 on the season.

Palmerton-Moravian Academy

Maddie Tran’s two goals highlighted Moravian Academy’s 4-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Lions’ duo of Chloe Oudin and Libby Michaelis both added goals.

Northern Lehigh-Palisades

Palisades ran away with an 8-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Lehighton-Bangor

Bangor opened its regular season with a 3-1 non-conference win over Lehighton.

Kaylee Holland, Dani Frinzi and Matti Albert posted the Slaters’ goals.

Karissa Hough scored the Indians’ lone goal.

Indians’ keeper Angelina Romito finished with 16 saves.

Lehighton falls to 2-1 on the season, while Bangor moves to 1-0.

Palmerton-Moravian Academy

Cassie Romanczuk’s four goals sparked Moravian Academy to a 7-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Lions’ Rebecca Donahue, Nikki Chiaradia and Kate Costantino all added scores.

VOLLEYBALL

North Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe swept North Schuylkill for a 25-8, 25-5, 25-6 Schuylkill League win.

Kelsey Carroll led the Olympians’ attack with eight assists, six aces, six digs and five kills.

Brandy Montemuro (five aces, five assists, four kills) also contributed in the victory.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Pottsville breezed to a 25-12, 25-7, 25-10 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Lehighton.

Lillian Brown paced the Indians with 16 digs, one ace and one kill. Samantha Banning tallied eight digs and two aces.

Lehighton will host Tamaqua Thursday in the program’s annual “Match with a Meaning.”

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Palmerton came out victorious with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-19 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Panther Valley-Lourdes

Panther Valley swept Lourdes 25-5, 25-14, 25-11 in a Schuylkill League Division 2 contest.

Erika Dubosky had 10 digs, seven kills and nine service points for the Panthers. Olivia Dacey added 10 kills, 10 digs and six service points, while Emilee Kwaak tallied 24 service points, eight digs, four kills and three aces.

Sarah Zabroski dished out 18 assists and four service points in the victory, while Rachelle Filer (nine kills, seven service points, three blocks) and Jenna Dubosky (10 assists) also played key roles in the win.

Panther Valley also won the JV contest, 25-6, 25-1.

Marian-Blue Mountain

Marian dropped its opening match of the season, falling to Blue Mountain in three games.

The Fillies, who are now in Schuylkill League’s Division 1, lost 25-12, 25-15, 25-14.

Weatherly opened its season with a 25-18, 25-16, 28-26 Schuylkill League Division 4 victory over Shenandoah Valley.

East Stroudsburg South recorded a 514-518 non-conference win over Lehighton.
