Tamaqua’s Sarah Maue and Palmerton’s Jake Martinez both captured firsts at the Northampton Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday.

In other action, Lehighton picked up victories in boys soccer and field hockey.

BOYS SOCCER

No. Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton knocked off Northern Lehigh for a 6-2 non-league win.

The Bombers’ Connor Russo and Jonny Perloni both scored two goals. Teammate Teegan Green added a single score. The other Bombers’ score came via an own goal.

Josh Sollars scored both of the Bulldogs’ goals.

Palmerton had a 15-8 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corners.

Pen Argyl-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe and Pen Argyl ended in a 2-2 non-league tie.

Thor Huth led the Olympians with a goal and an assist. Leandro Ramirez added the other JT score, while Ryder Wallace was credited with an assist.

Stivan Kumbarov posted both the Green Knights’ goals.

Olympians’ keeper Kingseley Ehling recorded nine saves. Green Knights’ keeper Graham Rose made 15 stops.

Catasauqua-Lehighton

Isaiah Everett’s two goals were all Lehighton needed to score a 2-0 non-league victory over Catasauqua.

The Roughies held a 10-8 advantage in shots. The Indians had an 8-2 edge in corners.

Indians’ keeper Zach Andrews made 10 saves to post the shutout win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Sch. Haven

Schuylkill Haven defeated Jim Thorpe, 3-2.

Lydia Wallace and Kelly Hogarty posted the Olympians’ scores.

Jim Thorpe held a 12-5 edge in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners.

Bangor-Pleasant Valley

Five different players scored as Pleasant Valley ran away with a 7-0 non-league win over Bangor.

The Bears’ Kelly Whalen and Brianna Clark both finished with two goals. Alexa Weaver, Aurora Cruci and Faith D’Amato added single scores.

PV’s Kelly Irwin was credited with two assists, while Addison Berger, Alexa Clark, Samantha Merklin and Larissa Mulligan contributed single assists.

Merklin made four saves in the Bears’ net to record the shutout.

Pleasant Valley improves to 2-0 on the season.

Lehighton-Pen Argyl

Brooke LaBarre’s five goals sparked Pen Argyl to a 6-0 non-league win over Lehighton.

Teammate Delaney Porter added a single score and three assists.

Indians’ keeper Alyssa Myers finished with 19 saves. Her counterpart, Katya Hoover, made five saves to record the shutout.

VOLLEYBALL

Lehighton, Tamaqua

at Cardinal Clash

Nativity won the Cardinal Clash Championship at Pine Grove.

The Golden Girls knocked off Mahanoy Area 25-20, 21-25, 15-6 in the title match.

Lehighton and Tamaqua both took part in the tournament, each of whom fell in the quarterfinals.

Nativity defeated Lehighton 25-19, while Pine Grove defeated Tamaqua 25-12.

Lehighton finished the day 5-5 in pool play, while Tamaqua went 3-5.

For the Indians, Emily Miller had 15 kills; Alyssa Frey had 32 assists, four kills and six aces; Lillian Brown contributed 29 digs and three aces; Sydney Vincent produced 10 kills, eight digs, and four aces; and Samantha Banning also chipped in with 15 digs.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lehighton-Pleasant Valley

Karissa Hough’s goal in overtime gave Lehighton a 1-0 non-league win over Pleasant Valley.

The Indians held a 9-3 edge in shots and 10-1 advantage in corners.

Bears’ keeper Emma Strohl finished with seven saves.

Lehighton improved to 2-0, while Pleasant Valley fell to 0-2.

CROSS COUNTRY

Lehighton, Marian,

Palmerton, Tamaqua at Northampton Invitational

Sarah Maue and Jake Martinez both posted first-place finishes at the Northampton Invitational.

Maue, of Tamaqua, crossed the finish line in a time of 20:08.35 to win the girls’ A/AA race.

Martinez, of Palmerton, posted an A/AA boys’ best with a time of 16:59.93.

As a team, the Tamaqua girls won the A/AA girls’ race. Lehighton and Marian followed in third and seventh place, respectively.

On the boys’ side, Palmerton, Lehighton and Tamaqua finished in a pack, placing 12th, 13th, and 14th, respectively.

The Blue Raiders’ Frances Kabana (third), the Fillies’ Nicole Capparell (sixth), the Blue Raiders’ Brianna Dumond (seventh) and the Indians’ Kelsey Gaston (10th) all had strong performances in the 13-team girls A/AA field.
