I see the red leaves with a feeling of anticipation, because that is one of the first signs that fall is approaching.

Already I’ve prepared my hunting clothes.

I have an ever-growing list of items to pack for a planned hunting trip and I can’t seem to help myself – I’ve already bought and packed some of the dry food goods into my small cooler. And the trip is a couple months away.

And with perfect timing here’s a great event to really get you primed for hunting season. Also, if you’ve never visited Bethlehem’s Steel Stacks, it’s past time to do so. At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the ArtsQuest Center at Steel Stacks, ArtsQuest and the Ruffed Grouse Society (Lehigh Valley Chapter) are hosting The Hunting Film Tour.

So what is it? It’s a series of short films which celebrate all types of hunting.

“They are really well-done, artistic films – the storytelling and visuals and exceptional,” said Mark Demko, ArtsQuest. “As a kick off to the upcoming hunting season, it’s a great way to get excited.”

Proceeds from the Hunting Film Tour benefit Ruffed Grouse Society and ArtsQuest, and help support the annual Step Outdoors Festival, an event for children and families held the first weekend in June. Demko said that the films are unique and capture the essence of the hunting experience.

“There are 8 or 9 films, each 5 to 15 minutes long,” he explained. “There’s a bit of everything, turkeys, waterfowl, upland hunting, big game – something for everyone.”

Demko described the films as capturing “the stories, landscapes and pursuits that make hunting a generational passion. Each film in the line-up has a theme of conservation and fair chase, he said.

The lineup of films also includes a screening of the Ruffed Grouse Society’s “Project Upland,” a unique bird hunting initiative that captures the passions and traditions of the grouse woods to inspire a new generation of upland hunters.

This multi-video production, featuring several short films, celebrates those experiences sportsmen treasure in the woods – stories and cherished memories that are essential to engage the next generation of grouse hunters and conservationists.

Guest are invited to arrive starting at 6:30 p.m. for Happy Hour to talk with fellow sportsmen, check out the vendors and enjoy a beverage or bite to eat from the ArtsQuest Center’s Mike & Ike Bistro (not included with ticket price). During intermission there will be an auction and raffle, with the chance to win hunting gear, trips and more.
