Electric salesman cited in Tamaqua

An employee of PA Gas and Electric who was canvassing Tamaqua on Aug. 16 trying to get people to switch electric providers, was cited by Tamaqua police.

Police received several calls from residents about two men going door to door and went to check on them at 5:56 p.m. They found the duo near the intersection of Greenwood and Arlington streets. Neither man had applied for a soliciting permit at borough hall. Officers also found a grocery bag on the ground near the fire hydrant in the area. One of the solicitors, Gary Leech, 24, of Youngstown, Maryland, was identified as the man a resident saw throw the bag on the ground.

Inside the bag was a can of Four Loko beer. Leech denied being the one who tossed the bag but had a distinct odor of alcohol on his breath. His partner confirmed the resident was right.

Leech was charged with public drunkenness and scattering rubbish.
