Woman avoids theft charges

A woman who stole her neighbor’s package in Tamaqua on Aug. 16 caught a huge break when the victim was just happy to get back her items.

Police received a call at 11:40 a.m. about a package that was taken from a front porch in the 500 block of East Broad Street one day earlier. A review of the home security system showed a small woman, with red hair, sitting on the porch, holding a shopping bag. She then picks up a small package that had been delivered to the home, placing it in her shopping bag before she walks away.

The woman taking the package was identified as Sheri Louise Keller, 47, who lives in the 600 block of East Broad Street. Keller was contacted and admitted taking the package, which contained more than 100 photo reprints.

The photos were recovered and returned to the victim, who was so happy to get them back she didn’t want Keller charged with theft.

Instead, police charged her with disorderly conduct.
