Nesquehoning police

Nesquehoning police recently filed alcohol or drug related charges against a number of people.

• Jose L. Padilla Roman, 44, of Hazleton, was charged with DUI, careless driving and other related offenses, after police stopped him on May 7 for driving erratically on Route 93 heading south. During the traffic stop, police noticed Padilla Roman was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. A blood test revealed he had a 0.221 BAC.

• Kelly Sue Smith, 46, of Nesquehoning, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft after police found she stole from the Dollar General in Nesquehoning on July 14. Police said Smith tried to take $61.49 worth of merchandise without paying for it. During a search of her purse, police also found a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs.

• Tammy G. McMullen, 50, of Nesquehoning, was charged with possession of drug paraphenalia. On May 9, police pulled over a vehicle for inspection requirements. McMullen was a passenger and she allowed police to search her purse and officers found three empty bags of heroin.

• Kerry S. Bauder, 34, of Nesquehoning, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, DUI and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection. On May 9, police pulled over a vehicle he was driving for inspection requirements. During the traffic stop, officers noticed Bauder was exhibiting signs of drug use and saw a fresh injection site. He admitted to taking percocet and oxycodone earlier that day. During a search of his vehicle, police also found five bags of heroin and a cylinder of marijuana.

• Emmanuel Torres, 20, of Hazleton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. On Aug. 9, police were called for a disabled vehicle on Route 93 north near the county prison entrance. By the time police arrived at the scene, the vehicle was located on the shoulder of the road with its four-ways on near the rifle range. Torres said the vehicle overheated. Police saw he had a pipe used to smoke marijuana, which Torres admitted using.
