Police: L. Towamensing man tried to strangle woman, kicked trooper

State police at Lehighton have accused a Lower Towamensing Township man of attempting to strangle a woman and kicking a trooper who tried to arrest him.

Jeffrey Evan Fisher, 58, of Little Gap Road, allegedly attacked a woman and choked her with both hands during an altercation on Aug. 15 around 9 p.m.

The woman told police that he also kicked her, pushed her and grabbed her by the hair during the attack. She told police that while Fisher choked her, she could not breathe.

When police arrived at Fisher’s home and attempted to arrest him, he became extremely angry and upset, and refused to enter the police vehicle. He allegedly kicked a trooper in the leg before he was secured in the vehicle.

Fisher denied strangling the victim and said he was sorry about kicking the trooper.

He is facing felony charges of strangulation and aggravated assault for attacking the trooper.

Bail was set at 10 percent of $50,000.

Fisher is currently jailed at Carbon County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 29.
