Tamaqua man found not guilty of attempted first degree murder

A Schuylkill County jury has found Charles D. Heffelfinger, 24, of Tamaqua, not guilty of attempted first degree murder in the Feb. 12, 2017 shooting of Gary Reidel of Girardville.

The shooting happened as the two argued about Heffelfinger not being offered a ride home from a Tamaqua bar.

However, The jury found Heffelfinger guilty of related charges of two counts each of of aggravated assault and simple assault, and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.

President Judge William E. Baldwin ordered a presentence investigation before deciding Heffelfinger’s punishment. He faces from three to 20 years in state prison.

Baldwin also increased his bail to $100,000, and ordered him to live in a house where there are no weapons, to avoid alcohol, and to not live with his parents.
