Traffic signal pole replaced in Tamaqua

Crews prepare to replace a traffic signal pole at the Five Points intersection in Tamaqua Monday morning. The pole was taken out by a tractor-trailer last Wednesday, when a driver trainee attempted to turn right off Center Street. The rig was being driven by Lucy Mary Ramos, 59, of Mansfield, Ohio, who was driving north on Route 309. She mistakenly took the hard right rather than continuing ahead on to Mauch Chunk Street. The trailer struck both concrete poles placed at the intersection to protect the sidewalk and bank building before hitting the traffic signal pole. The 100 block of Broad Street was closed to traffic for more than an hour while crews replaced the pole and signals.
