Car show

The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a series of free, informal car shows at Heisler’s Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. Billed as “Sundae Drivers Park and Gawk,” organizers say the events are meant to be fun, informal shows where car enthusiasts can spend time together swapping stories and enjoy good food.

The next get-together is scheduled for Aug. 19. Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m.

Also this Sunday at Heisler’s, the New Individuals will present a free concert from 6 to 8 p.m.

Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28 in the social hall at Zion’s Church of the Lewistown Valley.

Carol Kohn will be the guest speaker and present a program on water conservation. For those participating in the monthly judging, the arrangement category will be fresh flowers and greens in a summer time vessel, while the specimen will be any blooming flower.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Tamaqua YMCA on Aug. 23. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health, is eligible to become a blood donor.

Bee friendly

Penn State Master Gardeners, Schuylkill County, are looking for pollinator friendly gardens and landscapes.

Gardeners who show their care for the birds and bees will have the opportunity to register their gardens, through Penn State, online at http://ento.psu.edu. Pollinator friendly gardens are those that provide water, shelter, nectar and pollen, without invasive plants or harsh pesticides.

Sign up before Sept. 1 to be entered into a drawing for a basket filled with gardening supplies.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Next week’s activities include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.

Calvary Lewistown

All services for Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle. The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, there will be an evening service at 6:30 p.m.

The Lumber River Quartet will perform on Aug. 23. The concert of gospel music will begin at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, the adult class and allegro bell choir will meet following the service.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

On Aug. 26, the service will be held at Leiby’s Grove, followed by a picnic lunch and games.
