Men facing charges after robbery, police chase in Nesquehoning

Two Albrightsville men are each facing multiple charges after a robbery and assault incident that happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday in Nesquehoning.

Robert H. Freeman, 24, of Pocahontas Lane, and Adrian M. Thompson, 25, of Mountain Road, were arrested after they fled the scene of the crimes on West Railroad Street, led police on a chase that ended in Jim Thorpe and were located in the woods.

Freeman is charged with three counts of robbery and one count each of criminal conspiracy, simple assault and theft by unlawful taking.

Thompson is charged with three counts of robbery, two counts of receiving stolen property and one count each of criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking, simple assault, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, disregard for a traffic lane and required lights.

The arresting officer is Nesquehoning Patrolman Richard Neikam who in an affidavit of probable cause states the matter began when he was summoned to the 100 block of West Railroad Street for a fight involving three men. The officer said he found the victim of the robbery, Dreden Parkes, who told the officer he was assaulted and robbed of his red backpack.

Neikam said he saw a black vehicle leaving the area with its headlights turned off. A chase followed on Route 209 until the car crashed at the intersection of Route 209 and Liberty Road in Jim Thorpe. Freeman and Thompson got out of the vehicle.

Police said they initially located Freeman in the wooded area next to the highway. Later, Thompson approached police from the woods and told the officers he was “taking a walk.” Police said he had minor injuries to the face that indicated he was involved in the incident.

Police said Parkes and Joshua Scavello, a witness, arrived at the police station and identified the men and stolen backpack, as well as cellphones that police located in the glove box of the car.

Police said Thompson, when in custody, said he was the driver of the car, a 2016 Kia Forte that he told police he stole from Albrightsville.

Joining Nesquehoning police in responding to the incident and chase were officers from Lansford, Summit Hill and Jim Thorpe.
