Police release details of fatal Carbon crash

State police at Lehighton have released additional information about a one-car crash on Aug. 4 that claimed the life of a Kunkletown man.

Police said the crash took place about 415 feet east of Douglas Lane when 38-year-old Brian D. Heydt was driving a 1999 Pontiac Firebird during adverse weather conditions. Police said there was a heavy downpour at the time.

Police said Heydt was traveling east at 1:40 a.m. when the car left its lane and crossed over the westbound lane onto the north berm. It then went down an embankment, striking a mailbox and a township sign, then became airborne. It rolled over onto its roof on the westbound lane, then slid several feet on its roof. Heydt was partially ejected from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at 3:10 a.m. at the scene by Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller, who attributed the death to blunt-force trauma.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Aquashicola Fire Department.
