Walnutport to consider volleyball for residents

Volleyball is being considered as a recreational activity in Walnutport.

The matter was revisited when resident Donald Eckhart once again brought the matter up for discussion at council’s workshop meeting on Thursday.

Eckhart, who serves on the borough’s recreation committee, reiterated that he believes a volleyball court would make for a nice addition in the borough.

He said the activity is especially popular with people in their late teens and early 20s.

“We don’t supply anything for that age group,” Eckhart said.

Eckhart said that he sees people in that age group playing volleyball all the time at Bryfogle Park in neighboring Berlinsville.

“If we had volleyball here, we’re right in the (area) where people would use it,” he said. “We’re right within walking distance.”

Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz told Eckhart, “We’re hoping to do it.”

There is a group that is willing to volunteer their time to do excavation work, Councilman Michael Gaston said.

Eckhart said he believes it would a worthwhile addition to the borough.

“All summer long, they’re playing out at Bryfogle,” he said.
