Crash closes Route 54

Route 54 in Rush Township was closed this morning after the driver of a tri-axle truck lost control tearing out a set of guiderails.

The incident began when the truck was traveling east and entering a curve in the roadway. The truck entered the berm mowing down the barrier. Authorities at the scene said the truck was just feet from plummeting down the high steep embankment to railroad tracks below of which a train was passing by. Hope’s Towing of Tamaqua removed the truck.

Hometown fire police maintained traffic control at the scene shutting down the roadway and detouring traffic around the scene. Rush Township police are investigating the incident.
