Prothonotary’s report

A total of case 544 were started in July in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 22; custody complaints, 16; complaints to modify custody, 20; district justice appeals, 8; divorce complaints, 18; complaints in ejectment, 2; eminent domain/petition for viewers, 1; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 16; complaint in partition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 32; protection from sexually violent individual petition, 1; quiet title actions, 2; court appointments, 2; judgments, 356; miscellaneous cases, 2; stipulations/waivers of liens, 8; and writs of executions, 34. The office staff also processed 95 applications for U.S. Passports and provided assistance to the public with 45 Passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for July shows $46,857.03 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $34,231.60; interest income, $6.68; custody/divorce fees, $2,400; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $50; PFA Surcharge, Courts, $50; data processing fees, $7,305; stenographer fees, $1,313.75; and remote access fees, $1,500.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,604.05 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $57.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $2,245 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
