A passenger on a motorcycle is dead following a one-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department said the incident occurred at 4:57 p.m. on Route 196 in Tobyhanna, a short distance south of the intersection of Route 423.

Police said the motorcycle was traveling north on 196 and left the roadway for unknown reasons.

The operator of the vehicle was flown to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton for evaluation and treatment.

A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner.

The cause is under investigation at this time.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
