Summit Hill woman stole mother’s ATM card

A 20-year-old Summit Hill woman has been arrested by borough police on a number of charges, including theft charges relating to her having stolen her mother’s ATM card and utilizing it to get cash from a machine.

Jessyca Smale, of the 100 block of East Fell Street, is charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they were notified by the woman’s mother on July 11 that her ATM card was stolen and the mother believed her daughter took it. Police made contact with Smale at a location in the 300 block of East Hazard Street, and she agreed to go with police to the police station to provide a written statement for them.

Police said before the woman was placed in the police car, she gave the officer consent to search a bag she had in her possession. Police said the search resulted in five empty bags of suspected marijuana being discovered.

Later, at the police station, the woman admitted stealing her mother’s ATM card and using it to withdraw $60 from the account, and admitted the drug paraphernalia belonged to her.
