Schuylkill awards $1.2M in contracts for renovation of former human services building

Contracts totaling $1,214,413 are now in place for the renovation of Schuylkill County’s former human services building at 410 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Commissioners on Wednesday awarded the contracts for general work, heating, cooling and ventilation, plumbing and electrical to the lowest bidders.

Perrotto Builders Ltd. Reading, was awarded the general contracting job. Perrotto submitted a base bid of $713,000 and alternate bid of $41,000.

Bognet Inc. of Hazleton was awarded the $85,000 plumbing contract.

Antz Energy Systems Inc. Shenandoah, was awarded the HVAC contract. Antz submitted a base bid of $98,725 and an alternate bid of $13,718.

Spotts Brothers Inc., Schuylkill Haven, was awarded the electrical job. The company submitted a base bid of $242,470 and an alternate bid of $20,500.

The county is renovating the building, which until 2016 housed the county Children & Youth Services Agency.

After the agency outgrew the building, it was moved across the street to a larger building the county acquired and renovated.

Schuylkill is planning to renovate and use the Centre Street building to house its mental health and drug and alcohol agencies and the office of District Judge James Reiley there.

Those offices currently are in leased buildings. Moving them to the county-owned building will save $100,000 a year.

In other business, commissioners awarded a $99,600 contract to Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction Co. for a Community Development Block Grant Americans with Disabilities access improvement project at Zion Stone Church in West Penn Township.

They also agreed to seek bids for the 2018 Tamaqua Street Program.

Bids will be received in the controller’s office by 3 p.m. Aug. 7 and opened in the commissioners board room at 9 a.m. Aug. 9.

The tentative award date will be Aug. 15.
