County to work with collections service

District court scofflaws in Schuylkill County will soon have a collection agency to answer to.

County commissioners on Wednesday signed an agreement with National Bond & Collection Associates Inc. to provide collection services for the district courts.

National Bond & Collection will attempt to locate and collect debts from defendants who have rendered themselves unavailable to the courts and traditional collection efforts.

The one-year agreement won’t cost the county a dime.

All fees will be assessed to the defendant by National Bond.

This is the first time district courts will have use of a collection agency.

National Bond currently collects for the sheriff’s and adult probation departments, County Administrator Gary R. Bender said outside the meeting.

In other matters, commissioners approved renewing a $23,570, one-year service agreement between Kova Corp. of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, and the county communications center.

The agreement is for service and maintenance of an 88 channel Audiolog Max Pro recording system that was purchased in 2008.

The agreement has been in place since 2009 with no price increase.
