Student-athletes at Marian Catholic will have another option for scholastic competition this winter. Athletic Director Stan Dakosty recently confirmed that the school will begin a co-op wrestling program with Schuylkill Haven this winter.

“We went through the proper protocol, asked all the neighboring school districts and none were interested,” said Dakosty. “Schuylkill Haven Athletic Director Scott Buffington has been really great, and we’re excited about the opportunity.”

Marian had previously attempted to link-up with Pottsville, but the co-op ultimately didn’t come to fruition.

Now that a deal is in place, Dakosty is excited to see what the future holds.

“I’m anxious to see how it works out,” he said. “Right now, we’re still in the infant stages. But I’m interested to see what happens. I think it’s a win-win for everybody.”

The co-op agreement was approved at the July 18 PIAA Board of Directors meeting.
