Berlinsville blanks Bethlehem

Berlinsville helped its Blue Mountain League playoff hopes with a victory over Bethlehem Steel on Monday.

In other action, Franklin Township rolled to a win in the West Hazleton 7-8 tournament.

John McClain tossed a four-hit shutout to lead the Berlinsville Braves to a 5-0 victory over Bethlehem Steel.

McClain walked one and struck out 10 during his seven innings of work.

Christian Kinsley had two hits and scored a run for the Braves, who tallied three times in the top of the first, while Austin Mueller added a double and two runs.

The winners also received a hit and a run from Northern Lehigh graduate Cody Krupa, and a hit and an RBI from Andrew Roth.

The Braves are now 11-14 and sit a half-game behind the Easton Falcons for the sixth and final playoff spot.

Franklin Township pounded out 15 hits en route to a 10-0 victory over Weatherly.

Logan Bellis did the most damage, collecting three hits (single, double, triple) and knocking in six runs.

Cash White contributed three hits and scored three runs, while Grant Birnbaum added two hits and three runs.

FT’s Dominic Lawrence (two hits, two walks) and Gavin Kester (hit, three walks) both reached base four times, and Braylon Hunsicker chipped in with a hit and run scored.

Bellis also gained the pitching win, allowing just two hits while striking out eight.
