Inmate charged with vandalism

A Carbon County inmate is facing more charges after he destroyed county property.

On June 9, Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith received a call from the county prison stating that inmate Douglas James Ahner, 36, of Club Road, Palmerton, destroyed a television, DVD player and cable box, valued at under $500.

Video footage from the prison’s security system caught the destruction on tape. It showed Ahner grabbing the television and smashing it off the ground because he told staff he wanted to go to state prison because he didn’t like the county prison’s food and said that if that didn’t happen he would break stuff.

Ahner was charged with institutional vandalism.
