Tamaqua man caught stealing from vehicle

A casual look out of a front window on Market Street in Tamaqua led to charges against a Tamaqua man, who was caught going through the victim’s parked van.

Police were called to the first block of Market Street St. at 3:30 a.m. June 15 after a resident looked out his window and saw the passenger side door of his van hanging open. There was a man leaning into the van at the time.

The victim yelled and the man fled.

Armed with a good description of the suspect, officers found him minutes later and identified him as David Ruben Green, 66, of Mauch Chunk Street.

Green denied going through the van but admitted being on Market Street. Police searched him and found a small amount of change and a woman’s ring that had been in the van according to the victim.

Green was charged with theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, prowling at night and possession of an instrument of crime, which was a flashlight he was using to look into vehicles.
