Hazleton woman charged in Tamaqua

A Hazleton woman was charged by Tamaqua police after a traffic stop on June 15.

An officer was on patrol at 9:35 p.m. in the area of Pine and Elm streets when he saw a red Ford Escape fail to stop for a red light. The SUV was traveling north on Route 309 and was pulled over near the intersection of Pine Street and Schuylkill Avenue.

The driver did not have a license, only an expired Pennsylvania identification card, identifying her as Kelly Patricia Swartwood, 46, of Monges Street in Hazleton. Swartwood admitted her driver’s license was suspended due to driving under the influence charges.

A records check indicated that her license was suspended and that an ignition interlock device was required on her vehicle. The Ford did not have the device and was towed from the scene.

Swartwood was charged with driving with a suspended license, driving without an ignition interlock and running a red light.
