Monarchs sweep twinbill; Towamensing Little League wins pair

The Carbon Monarchs won a pair of Lehigh Valley Legion games to highlight local baseball action.

S. Lehigh-Carbon Monarchs

The Carbon Monarchs swept a doubleheader against Southern Lehigh on Sunday.

The Monarchs posted a 17-0 victory in the first game, with Bradley Buzzard going 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Zach Searfoss also doubled and drove in three runs.

The offense stayed hot in the second game, as Carbon posted a 15-5 victory.

Mason Goida went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a double, while Buzzard (two runs scored) and Justin Marykwas (three runs scored, two RBIs) both collected three hits and doubled twice.

Jake Taras tripled among his two hits and added three RBIs, and Dan Keer launched a solo homer in the fifth for the Monarchs.

E. Stroudsburg-Birches

East Stroudsburg rolled to an 11-3 victory over the Birches.

Brett Yarnell (double) had three RBIs and Sal Furino drove in two for East Stroudsburg, which led 7-0 after three innings.

Matt Ortiz doubled and drove in a run for the Birches. Cam Lawson also added an RBI.

District 18 8-10

Towamensing-Anthracite

Towamensing topped Anthracite 15-3 in the District 18 8-10-year-old Little League Tournament on Sunday.

Logan Anthony had a home run, while Alex Keiper, Jason Carrelli and Josh Turner all had two hits apiece for Towamensing.

Cameron Pengelly was the winning pitcher, striking out eight in three innings.

Logan Fisher and Danny Wehr had hits for Anthracite.

Towamensing-Weatherly

Alex Keiper had three hits as Towamensing shut out Weatherly 11-0 on Saturday.

Jason Carrelli and Luke Matsko both had two hits for the winners.

Stephen Barnic recorded a hit for Weatherly.
