Franklin gets LL wins; JT Connie Mack splits

Franklin Township collected a pair of recent wins in the District 18 8-10 Little League tournament.

In other area baseball action, the Berlinsville Braves and Jim Thorpe’s Connie Mack team both split their weekend games.

Timmy Tartaglia’s RBI single in the sixth inning broke a tie and helped lift Jim Thorpe to a 5-3 victory over Southern Lehigh Friday at Limeport Stadium.

Drew Frank added an insurance run in that sixth frame with a run-scoring hit, and finished the contest 3-for-3.

Mike Daugherty gained the pitching win with three innings of scoreless relief.

The winners also received a two-run single from Jared Marykwas and an RBI double off the bat of James Lordi, while Ian Hubbard chipped in with a pair of hits.

Balliet-Jim Thorpe

Spencer Hunsicker had two hits and scored a pair of runs, but the Balliet Vikes used a five-run second inning to hand Jim Thorpe a 6-3 defeat.

The loss snapped Thorpe’s nine-game winning streak and dropped its record to 10-5.

Ian Hubbard added a pair of hits, while Jared Joyce delivered an RBI double.

Jared Marykwas struck out six in a complete-game effort, but suffered the loss.

BLUE MTN. LEAGUE

Berlinsville-Easton

Collin McGeary’s knocked in the go-ahead and eventual winning run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday to give the Berlinsville Braves a 5-4 win over the Easton Falcons.

Corey Webb collected two hits, two stolen bases, and scored the winning run for the Braves, while Kyle Buchman contributed a pair of hits and two runs. Matt Miller, a Palmerton native, added two hits and a run.

Northwestern graduate Jake Augustus chipped in with a hit and run, while Northern Lehigh product Cody Krupa finished with a hit and an RBI.

Tyler Svetik, a Palmerton graduate, got the start and struck out seven in four-plus innings.

For Easton, Trey Durrah had three hits — all doubles.

Martins Creek-Berlinsville

Brian Del Rosso pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters to lead Martin Creek to a 1-0 victory over Berlinsville on Sunday.

Del Rosso also knocked in the game’s only run in the third inning.

Jake Augustus (Northwestern graduate) had a hit and stolen base for the Braves (8-9), while CK Kinsley finished with a pair of hits.

Josh McClain pitched well in defeat, allowing just two hits and no walks, while striking out eight over six innings.

Franklin Twp.-Tamaqua

Cole Dietz had two hits and scored three runs as Franklin Township cruised to a 12-2 victory over Tamaqua on Saturday.

Carter Bellis added two hits, while Aiden Solt, Jayse Lawrence, Ashton Wentz, Cody Snyder, Zachary Schrantz, and Hunter Steigerwalt all had one for the winners.

Dietz, Bellis and Lawrence combined on a four-hitter with nine strikeouts.

For Tamaqua, Ana Ackerman, Brayden Houser, Jake Yenser, and Brody McCabe each had a single.

Franklin Twp.-JT Blue

Carter Bellis finished with three hits Sunday to lead Franklin Township to a 6-1 victory over Jim Thorpe Blue.

Winning pitcher Cole Dietz allowed just two hits in five innings, and helped his own cause with a pair of hits.

The winners also received hits from Aiden Solt, Jayse Lawrence and Konnor Nalesnik.

For Thorpe, Cole Lazorick, Lee Edwards, and Logan O’Connor each had one hit.
