State police report on crashes, DUI incidents

State police at Lehighton reported on the following traffic incidents.

• A driver and his passenger escaped injury when a deer jumped in front of their car at 10:24 p.m. June 7 on Route 903, just north of Maury Road, in Penn Forest Township. State police said Brandon D. Bowman, 22, of Lehighton, was driving a 1989 Volkswagen Jetta southbound when the deer ran into the roadway from the west berm, entering the path of the Jetta. The car struck the deer and continued south on Route 903 before leaving the east side of the roadway, striking a fence and coming to rest off the east side of the road facing east. Neither Bowman nor Mariah M. Miller, 19, also of Lehighton, his passenger, were hurt.

• Damages were minimal in a two-vehicle crash at 8:20 a.m. June 11 on Firehouse Road in Lower Towamensing Township. Police said the mishap occurred when a 2010 Kia Optima pulled out of a driveway at 590 Firehouse Road and struck the passenger-side rear tire area of a 2017 Freightliner that was eastbound at the time. Police said the Optima sustained non-disabling damage to its front fender. No one was injured.

• A 44-year-old Lehighton woman is facing charges of driving under the influence as the result of a stop made by state police for a traffic violation. The incident happened at 2:33 a.m. June 3. The woman was stopped while driving a Toyota sedan in the area of First Street, near the Rite Aid parking lot, in Lehighton. Police said after determining she was driving under the influence, she was taken into custody and transported for a blood test. Police will not release her identity until charges are filed.

• A 32-year-old Palmerton woman is facing charges of driving under the influence after an incident at 6 p.m. Friday in Bowmanstown. State police said the incident happened at the intersection of Bank Street and Route 895. The woman was transported to Palmerton Hospital for a blood test. Police will not release her identity until charges are filed.

• State police charged a Lehighton driver with driving under the influence after a traffic stop at 5 p.m. May 28. Dakota Heintzelman, 20, was cited after the incident. Heintzelman was halted at the intersection of Route 895 and Sport Club Road in East Penn Township.
